Sara Ali Khan’s Debut Kedarnath Gets A New Life, Ronnie Screwvala Takes Over The Film
After fallout between KriArj Entertainment’s Prernaa Arora and Abhishek Kapoor made headlines, it looked like Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer Kedarnath might never see light of day. But now, filmmaker Ronnie Screwvala has taken over the reins and compensated former producers
2 months after Sara Ali Khan’s debut project came to a
screeching halt owing to a massive fallout between its producers – Prernaa
Arora (KriArj Entertainment) and Abhishek Kapoor, comes in the news that the
film is ready to start its second schedule.
Mumbai Mirror reports that filmmaker Ronnie Screwvala has
taken over the reins and compensated former producers Bhushan Kumar, Prernaa
and Ekta Kapoor.
The film’s team is slated to get back to work by the
month-end in Mumbai. “When Ronnie saw footage from Kedarnath, he loved it and
has decided to back the film. He has paid Bhushan and Prernaa around Rs 14
crore and Ekta approximately Rs 8 crore for their investment in the film and
has now completely taken over the film along with Abhishek. Everything was
settled amicably and Abhishek can’t wait to start shooting again,” a source
close to the development informed Mirror.
The film’s first schedule was wrapped up in Uttarakhand.
Confirming the news, Ronnie told the daily, “Kedarnath is a great love story
set against the backdrop of the powerful true-life event that affected us all
during the floods in 2013. It completely matches my vision of great stories
that need to be told and I can’t wait to bring this story to the audiences
early next year.”
Trouble began brewing when the budget of the film
ballooned, followed by Gattu sacking team members amidst the shoot and disrupting production
modalities which resulted in the film getting delayed. He
also had a tiff with Sushant Singh Rajput, which further added
to the misery. However, Abhishek said that it was the torrential rain in
Uttarakhand (where the film’s first schedule was shot) that led to the delay.
If that was not enough, the director put out a tweet
that Kedarnath will release on December 21, 2018 – the same day as Zero,
starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, that too without
discussing with KriArj.
Things came to a head and finally, Prernaa filed a
lawsuit against Gattu, alleging breach of contract.
Talking about the road ahead, Gattu told Mirror, “I feel
invigorated that he has stepped in and reinforced his faith in me. Just being
in the same room with Ronnie is a privilege, making a movie with him is an
honour.”
